July 30, 1927 WINNETKA TALK Halt Enrollment for C.M.T.Camps; Oversubscribed | Active enrollment for the Citizens' Military Training Camps of Illinois, | Michigan and Wisconsin has been closed. The camps are oversubscribed. Major General William Lassiter, commanding the Sixth Corps Area, ex- pressed his thanks and congratulations to all members of the enrollment forces for their efficient work. "This marks the conclusion of the most suc- cessful season in the history of the| Sixth Corps Area," said the General. He further stated that there are now in training at Jefferson Barracks, Mo, 1,776; at Camp Custer, Mich., 1,104, and at Camp McCoy, Wis., 206 C. M. | T. C. students. | Sufficient applications have been re-| ceived at Corps Area headquarters and accepted to insure that Fort Sheri- dan, Ill, Fort Brady, Mich. and the Wisconsin quota for Fort Snelling, Minn., will be filled to capacity. "While I feel very much elated at the success of the C. M. T. C. enroll- ment this year," continued General Lassiter, "I regret exceedingly that so many fine young men are disappointed because they sent in their applications too late and there were not vacancies for all who applied." "Never before in the history. of the C. M. T. C. movement," added the General, "has the youth of the entire country submitted so many applica- tions to attend camps. Congress made provision to train 35000 C. M. T. C. students this summer, yet on July 10 a total of 54,982 applications had been received. To the press of this Corps area, both city and country, I feel very much indebted for their interest and their support, without which this splendid accomplishment in aid of good citizenship and National Defense would not be possible."
