Try Our Toastie Sandwiches 1064 Gage St. Hubbard Woods Phones Winnetka 2061-2344 Glencoe Man Witnesses Great Kilauea in Action A spectacular return of molten lava to the fire pit of Kilauea volcano seemed to be arranged for the special benefit of Oliver Picher of Glencoe, Ill, and his fellow travelers who ar- rived at Honolulu July 8 on the S. S. City of Honolulu. The activity which began the night before is the first in three years and is attracting such crowds of spectators that the boats plying between Hono- lulu and the island of Hawaii where the volcano is located are booked to| capacity. Beautiful fountains of red lava are playing the pit Halemaumau and visitors are watching the weird show by day and night. The Hawaiians are throwing ohelo berries and other offerings into the pit in recognition of Pele, the goddess of the volcano. Miss Marian Fulton of 884 Hill road, whose marriage to Lawrence Edmund DeBout of T ant n-ta NO ably be an early fall event, is leaving | Monday to join her mother, Mrs. Frank D. Fugon, for a week or ten days in Michigan. On Thursday be- fore her departure Miss Fulton was honored at a shower given by Miss Eleanor Calkins of Rogers Park. --O-- Mr. 'and Mrs. Ralph Center street are leaving this week- end for a two weeks' vacation at Eagle River, Wis., where they will be the guests of friends at their summer home. il proh- | Buteau of | | Services Held for Mrs. Mary Barry, Resident 35 Years | Mrs. Mary Burton Stewart Barry, 82 years old, and for the past 35 years a resident of Wilmette, passed away at her home, 912 Greenleaf avenue, last Monday. Mrs. Barry was the daughter of Thomas A. Stewart, first editor and publisher of the Chicago Tribune and had been a resident of Chicago and the North Shore all of her life, having come to Illinois with her parents when less than a year old She was born in Laporte, Ind, where her father had been the editor of the Laporte Whig. In 1847 her parents moved to Chicago, residing on what was at that time the north side but is now in the heart of the city. Mrs. Barry received her education in the Northwestern Female seminary, an antecedent of Northwestern uni- versity. In 1867 she became the wife of George Barry, an officer in the Consumers company and who passed away in 1905. Mr. and Mrs. Barry were active in the founding of the Swedenborgen church on Van Buren street. Surviving are three children, Dr. George F. Barry of Evanston, Mrs. John A. MacLean of Wilmette, and Mrs. Eugene A. Hatch of New York, with ten grandchildren and three ereat-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednes- dav from the residence.
