Summer School, Biggest in History, to Close August 20 Summer session classes at North- western university, after what has been the largest session ever, are reaching their close with final exam- inations in Liberal Arts and Com- merce and Journalism schools taking place the few days before August 20, with Music and Speech classes already closed, and with the approaching close of the Law, Medical and Dental schools. Medical school and Dental school will continue classes until early in September. Final examinations in Law school are scheduled for August 26 and the few days preceding. Music and Speech schools, held their final session August 5. Hundred More Than Last Year The attendance during the session according to a recent compilation of figures was 2,105 in all schools. Sub- tracting the 102 who attended the Medical school and the 18 who were enrolled in the Dental school, the net registration was 1985. This number compares favorably with the 1885 for the same schools in the 1926 summer session. Of this number Clyde L. Grose, di- rector of the summer session, esti- mates that one-third were regular stu- dents of the university; another third were teachers, and the other third were students from other universities. Commenting on the summer's work Prof. Grose said: "Especially nota- ble is the increase in the Graduate school. Graduate work is increasing during the summer everywhere. It is significant of the pressure put upon teachers by state and local boards to advance themselves to higher degrees. I am particularly pleased with this large increase owing to the fact that last summer for the first time there was no increase.
