You know I was secretary, treasurer and chairman of the grounds and greens committee and I met the boys." That there were obstacles aplenty in Speed's path when he built Northwest- ern, which he named after the Evans- ton university, is indicated by this in- formation. He says he was forced to build twenty-four holes to get a desir- able eighteen hole course because he was hampered by the "officials." Then this remark in conclusion-- "The County got a million dollar's worth of golf course and clubhouse for nothing. They didn't let me finish my job. I'm big enough to say that my feelings are hurt and let it go at that." Mrs. Thomas G. Mule Deer Group Added to Field Museum Exhibits A beautiful new habitat group of mule deer from the Kaibab forest in northern Arizona, on the spur of the Grand Canyon, has just been opened at Field Museum of Natural History, the director announces. The group is a splendid example of the most advanced type of museum ex- hibit, combining the art of the taxi- dermist in bringing the animals back in a lifelike appearance, and the art of the painter, in duplicating their natural habitat, museum officials assert. There are six deer in the group --a bull, two does, and three young deer. They were mounted by C. J. Albrecht, Field Museum taxidermist, who also hunted and bagged them while on an expedition sponsored by Captain Mar- shall Field. Charles A. Corwin, Field Museum artist, also went out on the expedition, and made sketches on the spot, from which he painted the large scenic background, in all its rich autumn colors, which now gives the mounted group surroundings in the museum exactly depicting the animals' natural habitat. Mrs. Edgar Foster Alden of 352 Linden avenue had as week-end guests over Labor Day, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Alden of Chicago, Mrs. Truman J. Settle and her children of St. Louis, and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde M. Joice and their children of Evanston. 0000000000000 000000000000000000000000000000000000607¢ 'School Opens Monday, Sept. 12 -- We Are Ready For You Loose Leaf Note Books -- Very finest grade on the market, Note Book Fill- ers -- made to fit your note books, roc up.
