FSH AR, fi dh ak September 24, 1927 WINNETKA TALK § Children's School Opensat N.K.E.C.; Boys in Majority The Children's school of the Na- tional Kindergarten and Elementary college opened Monday, Sept. 19, with an enrollment of 160 children from Evanston, Wilmette, Golf and Chicago. The attempt has been made in each class to equalize the number of boys and girls, but it is interesting to note that at present the boys outnumber the girls by twelve. The Children's school is unique in that, under the new plan, children may be enrolled either for the morning session or for the day session. The afternoon session for the Nursery school and Kindergarten includes the noon meal and nap, with careful at- tention to the development of desir- able habits of eating and sleeping. The afternoon session of the elemen- tary grades includes an opportunity for individual choices from the follow- ing activities: Nature excursions correlated with art--Miss Dorothy Weller, faculty, National Kindergarten and Elementary college. Physical education for boys--Brian Hines, head of the North Shore School of Physical Development. Physical education for girls--Miss Etta Mount, instructor in folk danc- ing, games, pageantry, N. K. Christian Science Church "Matter" was the subject of the lesson-sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, Sunday, September 18. The Golden Text was from Rom- ans 8:8, 9, "They that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you." Among the citations which com- prised the lesson-sermon was the fol- lowing from the Bible: "A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them" (Matthew 7 :18-20). The lesson-sermon also included the following passages from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health wtih Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy: "Matter never produces mind. The immortal never produces the mortal. Good cannot result in evil. As God Himself is good and is Spirit, goodness and spirituality must he immortal. Their opposites, evil and matter, are mortal error, and error has no creator" (p. 277).
