ww October 8, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 65 Shore Theaters | ------ ------- a -- Jo "" . . . Missing Link" and [13 -> 39 * Metropolis" Listed on Village Program The Village theater has scheduled Syd Chaplin's "The Missing Link," "Metropolis" the lat- ter taken from a Zane Grey story, for and "Lightning," the coming week. "The Missing Link," a feature for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, is something entirely new in Syd Chaplin productions. Be- ginning as a discouraged young man with a fear complex, Syd becomes en- tangled in the destinies of a famous big-game hunter bound for Africa. By a ludicrous series of mishaps he is carried off on the same liner and the hunter uses him as a substitute to receive the "attentions" of a pair of rivals. Between the natives, the hun- ter's enemies and jungle denizens, Syd has a busy time. Love also causes complications and a good time for the optience. "Metropolis" will be shown on Thursday. It is a German production and is a masterful bizarre and fantas- tic social melodrama dealing with a vast city of the future where men are machines and machines are men. It represents more than anything a tri- umph of the camera and of set manu- facture, for the plot is obviously too fantastic fer possibility. It is, how- ever, a fascinating picture. The shots in it are breath-taking. Only Zane Grey could create "Light- ning." It is, briefly, the story of an outlaw horse who, as king of a herd, is at war with the men of the plains. Two cowboys and a pair of cabaret performers fill out the re- mainder of the important roles in the interesting and colorful picture. How the cabaret girls are "broken to the halter" and "Lightning" is captured forms the climax. Jobyna Ralston and Robert Frazer play the leads. Village Theatre WILMETTE, ILL. J. B.
