--- mre) } ; October 22, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 19 Ulysses' Travels Are Revivified in Halliburton Talk By R. M. Many north shore residents were scattered among the audience Monday evening to hear Richard Halliburton, well known author of the "Royal Road to Romance" and "The Glorious Ad- venture," give his interesting lecture under the auspices of the Chicago l.eague of Women Voters Forum. He told of his latest travels which took him t! the lands of Homer's "Odessy." rou rh As an ardent admirer of Homer, and with Ulysses his ideal hero, it was quite natural for him to desire to follow the trail of Ulysses on his long adventur- ous travels, as he himself said: "Having wandered over the world for two years it was quite surprising that I should not feel content with staying at home in ease and comfort, but my spirit yearned to be across the ocean, travelling the route that Ulys- ses had traveled. stand it no longer. I packed up, and one day I, too, was one of those ships sailing across the ocean to the land of my dreams." Mt. Halliburton told of his journey in a most amusing, magical way. His humor was refreshing, and his descrip- tions of magnificent scenes and sights were exhilerating in their freshness. He told of swimming the Hellespont, of climbing Mt. Olympus, of making a pilgrimage to the grave of Rupert Brooke on Skyros, of visiting Circe's cave, of attempting to swim from Scvl- la to Charybdis. He also visited the cave of the Cyclops and ran the old Marathon course. Halliburton is one of the youngest writers of the present day and the charm of his books permeates his lec- tures. Mrs. W. H.
