td CMLL 3 hA - October 22, 1927 WINNETKA TALK ol afraid to die than to say you are not | afraid to steal, for, from the standpoint | of absolute Truth, both are activites of | the carnal mind." It has been generally conceded that if the teachings of Christ Jesus were practicable, the affairs of earth would be very much improved. Whenever this question arises the materialists and socalled hard-headed, common-sense in- dividuals dismiss it with the statement that while these teachings are beauti- ful and idealistic, they are entirely impracticable and that the world must look to other sources for the remedy of world evils. Concerning this Mrs. Eddy writes on page 9 of her work en- titled "Unity of God": "The talent and genius of the centuries have wrongly reckoned. They have not based upon revelation their arguments and conclusions as to source and re- sourees oof being--its combinations, pi enomena, and outcome--but have bu ead upon the sand of human ré They have not accepted the simple teaching and life of Jesus as the only true solution of the perplex- ing problem of human existence." It it true that when considered from a material standpoint, the teaching of the Master regarding the Golden Rule and the brotherhood of man does seem im- possible of practical application, but when viewed through the lens of Christian Science its - intense and wholly practical nature is immediately dsclosed; not only this. but one is in- stantly convinced that there is no other solution of the world's problems. Divine Guidance xP spiritual understanding of the Bible is a very practical guide and mentor in our everyday affairs bring- ing us life, peace, and joy. All the ac- tivities of life are mental, and since this is true it follows that, as our own lives 'are 'attuned to the divine Mind, all our actions become more and more harmonious and intelligent, and this of course means the progressive elim- ination of ignorance, misjudgment, and mistakes. This relationship not only brings peace of mind, with its divine calm, but also supplies the intelligence and judgment which make all one's acts productive of success, and bless all who may be connected with one under this divine guidance. This desirable mental attitude is described by Mrs. Eddy in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 204) as "deep-toned faith in God," and makes life indeéd sweet and satisfying. Says Courtesy Is Antidote for Bad Case of "Road Hog" "There's a new remedy .abroad in motordom that is reputed to work well in the case of the road-hog," advises Charles M. Hayes, president of the Chicago 'Motor club. "It isn't a mat- ter of 'out-hogging' him, either. The cure now being tried is that of giving him a ample of courtesy he should show. It is only natural that it should work in some measure. "Courtesy is contagious; good drivers should resist their impulse to retaliate. When the road-hog realizes that he is alone in his rudeness he becomes self- conscious of his errors," says Mr. Hayes. Kerilworth Barber Shop Schroeder Bldg. Doubtless you will be influenced to go because Frank McIntyre and Gertrude Vanderbilt are featured players in the piece. The surprise will consist of a realization that Charles Ruggles, Joseph Wagstaff and Gaile Beverly are running away with the show. Of course Mr. McIntyre is fat and funny as of yore and although Miss Vander- bilt is wtihout any great degree of singing or dancing talent she does ex- hibit her usual amount of personality. ' Both are seasoned players and each contributes much to the festivities, but the others mentioned are just as dis- tinct hits in their respective parts. "Queen High" is a clean, intelligent musical show with a definite and un- derstandable plot. It has to do with two business partners who cannot agree and who resort to a hand of cards to determine which shall acceed to the other's wishes. Nearly a dozen songs find their way into the proceed- ings and are helped along by an in- telligent looking dancing chorus which conducts itself much as does the av- erage group of this type. There are many funny lines and amusing situa tions with Mr. Ruggles taking full ad- vantage of each one that falls to his | lot. Mr. Wagstaff as the young lover, | is splendid while Miss Beverly, as the servant girl, stops the show. "You'll Never Know" and "Cross Your Heart" are song hits of the kind the audience whistles as it leaves. The piece had a good run in New York and should do well here. --THESPIAN AT INFORMAL LUNCHEON The chairmen of committees, dele- cates, and representatives of the Neighbors club of Kenilworth, met Oc- tober 11, at the home of the nresiden®.
