Here Miss Linn recites epi- grams, bits of verse, recipes and help- ful hints sent to her by the members of her daily audience which consists mainly of housewives. These contri- butions represent mental offerings to be exchanged among her listeners who are rapidly increasing because of the growing popularity of this novelty, for there are few people that exist who do not long to share their ideas with others. Moulter of Win- netka is chairman, was held last Mon- day night for the purpose of introduc- ing and discussing a proposal to form an organization with the individual civic groups as members and known as a "Civic Conference." The object of the organization would be to afford a means of investigation and research; conference and discus- sion : and dissemination of information concerning public questions among the associations of citizens of the Chicago region, organized for the advancement of civic welfare. The principal purpose would be that of conference among of- ficers and delegates of these civic or- The Civic Conference would take no action but would report the views of and actions taken by the affiliated organizations. It is understood that the Conference would be much on the order of the North Shore Relations committee, re- cently organized by the Chamber of Commerce of the north shore, but would include all of the civic organi- zations of the county. As there are ap- proximately 800,000 organized people in the Chicago area it would represent the co-operative effort along civic bet- terment plans of the entire group as a body, rather than separate units. The plan is the outgrowth of a sur- vey conducted by the University of Chicago and the Union League club last spring. While at the present time it is in merely an experimental form and will probably undergo many changes, the proposed plan was enthu- siastically approved by those present last Monday night. The meeting was one of a series that is being held and an increased interest is being shown in the proposition with each succeeding meeting.
