WINNETKA TALK December 3, 1927 Wally's Golf Hints Editor's Note: Following is the fifth of a series of golf lessons written by Wally Chamberlain, professional at Glen- coe Golf course, and head of the North Shore Golf school, of Winnetka, in which, from week to week will be presented many helpful hints for those who are just taking up the game of golf, as well as those who have been playing for some time but admit the need for improving their game. To turn more than that is not good, al- though it is alright to turn a little less. It is very easy, however, to swing "out- side the line" or cut across the ball if you have not turned enough and the safest and easiest way is the quarter turn. The left shoulder should not dip or hunch up but stay as near as possible to a level plane. If you stand perfect- ly straight and twist your body around to the right there will be no inclination to drop either shoulder. It is when you lean forward and try to hold the head still that it is sometimes hard to do. To one who has been dropping the left shoulder it will prob- ably feel very awkward aad he may even think the left shoulder is much higher than the right when it is just level. Try standing in front of a mirror and making your pivot. If the shoulders are fairly even all through the swing it cannot be so very bad, for it is dropping the left shoulder which causes your left hip to go down and your right one up, and when that happens you have no pivot, but a hip swing. This robs you of power, accur- acy and rhythm, and is not pretty to look at, It is much easier the correct way and, once you get the feeling of per- fect balance which goes with a good pivot, you will wonder how you ever did it any other way.
