December 10, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 11 Camp Fire Food Sale Proves Great Success In both effort and in results, the Camp Fire Girls' Food sale of Satur- day, December 3, was a great success. A happy group of Camp Fire Girls welcomed many visitors. The Neigh- borhood room of Community House was attractively decorated by the girls, and the booths showed much ingenuity and beauty. Some were gay with Christmas decorations. Others ex- pressed the Camp Fire spirit through symbols in table decorations and cos- tumes. Two groups of Blue-Birds (younger Camp Fire Girls) assisted the six Camp Fire groups. Miss June Heyda's little Blue Birds wore blue paper caps and aprons made by the group. The many housewives who attended spoke in high praise of this demonstra- tion of the art of cookery. Both as to the quantity offered for sale and the excellence of the quality the girls showed earnest, fine effort, and it was not easy for the committee of judges, Mrs. Taliaferro Milton, Mrs. Oliver Knode and Mrs. Arthur Boynton to determine the honor awards. Miss Mildred Olsen's group won first place for the prettiest table. Mrs. Philip Fisher's group won second place. Mrs. John Marshall's group won first place in quantity and variety. Mrs. George Eisenbrand's group won sec- ond place, and Mrs. John Winscott's group tied with Mrs. Isador Lang's group for third place. Five groups were 100% in contribution. About $80 was realized, which will go for general expenses and the purchasing of sup- plies and emblems. This effort on the part of the girls helps the organization not only finan- cially, but also helps to work out two of the Camp Fire law s--"Give Service and Glorify Work." Incidentally, it helps on another Camp Fire law--""Be Happy." New Trier Girls Take Interest in Swimming Since the opening of school, the New Trier tank has been open to girls every Tuesday and Friday after school. Swimming teams will be chosen about the beginning of the second semester. All girls who have been in swimming eight times since the beginning of school are eligible to swim in the ad- visor-room meets, and from those making the best record in these meets, the team will be chosen. It is hoped by putting on a restriction of eight practice swims, to make up the teams of those girls interested in swimming.
