Dated at the City of Chicago, County of Cook and State of Illinois, this ninth day of December, A. D. 1927. SAMUEL E. ERICKSON, Clerk of the Superior Court of Cook County, Illinois. FREDERICK DICKINSON, Winnetka Legion Post News The regular meeting of Winnetka Post No. 10, American Legion, was held at the Legion club rooms in Com- munity House Monday, December 5. The January visit to Great Lakes hospital, it was decided, will be made by Messrs. Chapman, Rogers, Car- penter, Snell, Meleney, Richards and Howell. The following committees were ap- pointed: Graves registration--chair- man, Dr. Harold J. Lynn; Harry Wil- lis, A. C. F. Gedge; Civic Affairs-- chairman, Dr. Frank W. Blatchford; Henry F. Tenney, E. R. Lewis, J. M. Dickinson, Jr. It has been proposed, and a program will: probably be carried out, holding three dances sponsored principally by the Drum Corps of the Post, the first to be given in January, the sec- ond, in February, and the third, some time in April. Reports on State Meet Commander E. G. Howell reported on the action of the Commanders and Adjutants conference which he attend- ed, and which was held December 3 and 4, at the State Department head- quarters in Bloomington. Important The final date for submitting appli- cations for the benefits of Federal Ad- justed Compensation by veterans, or dependents, is January 1, 1928. This fact can not be stressed too much by the Legion through its local papers and through its members. It has been my experience that a large percentage of ex-servicé 'men' neglect 'such mat- ters until it is. too late. Try to keep the percentage as low as possible by using publicity on this matter between now and December 31. Commander Howell also accom- panied several hundred legionaires on a visit to the Soldiers' Orphans' Home at Normal, Til, where about 600 de- pendent children are receiving excel- lent care, education and training. Appeal for Toys Winnetka Post will be very pleased to receive small toys which are brok- en, but still in fair condition. These toys will be re-made by the children of the Orphans' home and distributed within the home after being placed in proper condition. The matrons of the home prefer broken toys because they furnish working materials for the manual training, tin shop and sewing departments of the school. These toys may be left in the Adams Drug store, or in the Legion room, Community House, on Monday nights. Three recruits for the Drum Corps were enrolled. This corps is being trained by E. B. Straight, one of the leading drum instructors in the coun- try. North shore drum corps rivalry has stimulated interest in the local unit due to the formation of a corps in the Wilmette Post. Evanston Post, of course, has a veteran drum and bugle organization, having won second prize at the Cook county competition last summer. It is also rumored that North Shore Post, No. 21, has the formation convention last Fall at Wuakegan is fanning the interest of the North Shore "noise making" organizations. Affleck Home Purchased by H. C. Watts Harry C. Watts of the Paul Davis company, has purchased the home of B. F. Affleck, president of Universal Portland Cement company. The prop- erty is located at 695 Lincoln avenue, Winnetka, being the southeast corner of Humboldt avenue. The home is of brick Colonial design. The purity of the architecture has made it one of con- siderable notice and study. There are twelve rooms, five baths, a sun porch and sleeping porch, and there is a two- car brick garage. Mr. Watts and fam- ily will occupy the premises at once. McGuire & Orr negotiated this tran- saction, and some four years previous had sold the property to Mr. Affleck.
