December 31, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 13 Wilmette Family Develops Unique Yule Decoration Notable among the beautiful home trees at this Christmas time is the one in the home of Mr. and Mrs, Milton E. Reid at 601 Lake avenue. For many years Mr. Reid has been col- lecting ornaments and lights for the tree and has been developing the miniature Christmas scene which is always depicted beneath the tree. This year the tree itself literally fills the great sun-room to the north of the drawing room in the house. The branches, which have been carefully trimmed and skilfully supplemented where gaps broke the symmetry of the tree, have a spread of seven feet, six inches. The tree is not over- trimmed but such hangings as it has afford hours of study for those who observe closely. More than one hun- dred lights sparkle in the branches. More unique however than anything that hangs on the tree itself, is the realistic scene that has been built underneath, High in the corner of the sun-room beyond the tree is a little house, flooded with a warm amber light that beams from its many win- dows. From the house a winding roadway comes down the hill around the base of the tree. On the roadway is Santa Claus in his sleigh drawn hy reindeer. Just in front of the tree the road is graded up and crosses over a rustic bridge and pond of ice. Wild deer are seen among the evergreen trees along the way and all is covered with glistening snow. Mr. Reid has heightened the general effect by the tasteful decorations about the rest of the house and especially the suggestion of snowfall in the dining room and the drawing room made by little touches of cotton on invisible threads hanging from the ceiling in the two rooms, Mary Noble Becomes Bride of Carl F. Bishop Miss Mary Elizabeth Noble wore white chiffon velvet for her wedding Wednesday afternoon to Carl F. Bishop. Her tulle veil was caught with orange blossoms and a pearl bandeau, and she carried a shower bouquet of white roses and liles of the valley. The marriage service was read at 4 o'clock at Sacred Heart church by the Rev. Father F. J. Haarth, pastor of the church. The bride was attended by her sister, Margaret, as maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Mrs. George Noble and Miss Laura Bishop. All of the attendants wore period gowns of taffeta, silver headbands, and carried shower bouquets of pink roses, white sweet peas, and baby's breath. The maid of honor wore pink, Mrs. Noble had orchid, and Miss Bishop's gown was peach color. The ushers were George Noble and J.T best man was his brother, Lloyd. After the service a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Noble of 1010 Oak street. The house was decorated with palms and pink and white roses and chrysanthemums. Mr. Bishop is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Bishop of Tomahawk, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Phingsten of 968 Elm street gave a dinner for nine guests Wednesday evening in honor of their son; David FE. Phingsten, who is home for the holidays from Western Military academy at Alton. On Mon- day evening the Phingstens had ten guests at dinner. This meeting, as are the others conducted under the auspices of this department, is open to all women of the village interested in doing their bit for those less fortu- nate than they. School children, the committee announces, will be welcome at the luncheon which is served at noon. The Mary Bartelme home, an or- ganization in which 'many women liv- ing in the city and along the north shore are interested, will be the re- cipient of the work done during the month of January.
