Village Offering Week's Program of Attractive Films An excellent program has been ar- ranged by Manager J. B. Kopple of the Village theater for the coming week. "By Whose Hand," a Columbia mystery drama featuring Ricardo Cor- tez and Eugenia. Gilbert, will open the bill on Monday afternoon in a special New Year's matinee. Clara Bow's "Wine," a Universal screen version of a story by William MacHarg dealing with prohibition, has been selected for Wednesday. The pic- ture is said to be an excellent expose of bootlegging and its attendant activi- ties. "The Way of All Flesh," said to be Emil Jannings' greatest picture and his first American production, will be shown on Thursday and Friday. Jan- nings in the picture assumed in one stride the lead among American char- acter actors and presented a character which will live as a vivid, appealing and mighty personality of all time. A double bill has been scheduled for Saturday when "Chang" and Harold Lloyd in the "Freshman" will be pre- sented. Both are peers in their branches of the film industry; the one a nature picture and the other a farce comedy. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Opening Monday af- ternoon in a special New Year's mat- inee the picture will be showing through Thursday. "What Price Glory" is undoubtedly one of the most inter- esting and greatest pictures ever pro- duced. It is ranked by some critics as a better picture than "The Big Parade" although not universally so. Certainly it can be said to be one of the two big war films. "The Cat and the Canary," a mys- tery drama of unusual interest, will be shown this Saturday. The mystery element is excellently sustained and both dramatic and comedy scenes abound. Laura La Plante is cast in the leading role. "American Beauty," with Billy Dove and Lloyd Hughes, will be the present- ation this Sunday. It is the story of a typical American girl who desires to marry a millionaire but loves a man of her own circumstances. "Jesse James" will be presented on Friday, January 6, following the close of the run of "What Price Glory." Conduct Services for Man Killed in Winnetka Dec. 6 Funeral services for August Lind- quist, who was killed in Winnetka on December 6 when struck by a branch from the tree which he was trimming, were held from the Lewis Funeral parlors at 1124 Central avenue, Wil- mette, last Wednesday with interment in Memorial Park cemtery.' The services for Mr. Lindquist were postponed following the inquest held early this month pending the arrival of his sister, Mrs. E. R. Nelson, from Canada. Mrs. Nelson was delayed somewhat by being snow-bound at her home and was not able to get through until this week. Mr. Lindquist is also survived by his mother, residing in Sweden. COMMUNITY HOUSE The film version of Zane Grey's "Nevada," that splendid western story which made its first appearance in The American Magazine, will be the bill at the Winnetka Community House next Tuesday. On Friday, Bebe Daniels and Ger- trude Ederle will be featured in "Swim Girl Swim." "Will Rogers in Dublin" will also be presented.
