January 14, 1928 WEINNETRA "T-A'LK THRESHOLDERS SCORE Glencoe Dramatic Group Appears at Matz Hall Community House: Want Little Theatre in Village The Threshold Players of Glencoe presented Susan Glaspell"s "Suppressed Desires" to a packed house last Wed- nesday evening. Every seat in Matz hall, Winnetka, was occupied and "standing room only" was the fate of those obliged to come in late. The audience responded with delight to this parody of psycho-analysis, and realized again the truth of the old adage: "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing." The Winnetka Community Drama club has expressed its gratitude to the Glencoe Players. The cast was as fol- lows: Henrietta Brewster, ox: ont rad one rir hs Leis a Tha Tat Mrs. Harry I. Watson and Mrs. Frederick Thomas for the properties, and E. B. Fox for the lighting, co-operated efficiently. Dr. J. W. F. Davies, director of Com- munity House, made a very significant talk preceding the second part of the program. Dr. Davies recognized the growing and legitimate interest in amateur dramatics. He spoke of the increasing difficulty experienced in put- ting on plays in Matz hall, because of the growing demands for that room by other groups, and suggested that plans for a Little Theatre be started. To plan adequately, to study carefully the various Little Theatres now existing, should be the Drama club's immediate interest and duty, said Dr. Davies. The program continued with three solos by Mrs. George Kreer, accom- panied by Mrs. Dwight C. Orcutt of Glencoe, followed by a series of inter- pretative dances given by Janie Undem and Alvia Bleil, with Miss Florence Abbanat at the piano. These were di- rected by Martha Blair Fox, who has a studio in Winnetka. The dances were a Butterfly ballet, Slave dance, Bow and Arrow dance, and Scarf dance. Punch and cookies helped make the social hour agreeable and closed a de- lightful evening. Thanks are due Mrs. Charles Karnopp and the members of her players' committee, Mrs. Alfred Freeman. Mrs, Carleton W. Wash- burne, and Mrs. W. E. Davis. Grace Herbst Attending Annual Furniture Market Grace Herbst of the Herbst Gift Shop of Winnetka, is in Grand Rapids attending the 100th Semi-Annual Furniture market now being held in that city.
