~ March 17, 1928 WINNETKA "TALK 23 N.T. Swimmers in Split With Strong Morton High Squads New Trier High school swimmers concluded the 1928 season by splitting a twin bill with Morton High school at Cicero last Friday afternoon. The seniors found themselves on the weak end of a 38 to 21 score while the juniors took home a 27 to 21 tally. The Ciceronians copped the opening events when Sredl beat out Captain Bennett for first place in the 40 yard swim. The 100 yard event also went to the boys out on Austin boulevard. First and second honors in the 100 yard breaststroke were captured by Coach Jackson's swimmers, but the 220 yard event was dropped into the Morton pocket. Morton took first place in the remaining events, the 60 yard backstroke, the fancy diving, in which Japerick rolled up eight-tenths of a point more than Granstrom of New Trier, and the relay. _ In the juniors, New Trier stepped into the lead early in the meet, taking the forty yard dash. Things were evened up when the 100 yard dash went to the home team. Once more the invaders forged ahead, by taking the breaststroke. The backstroke race went to Cicero. As a result of the fancy diving--won by Larner of New Trier--the score stood with New Trier in a two point lead, the final event, the relay, being the deciding event, Coach Jackson's ponies saved their school from double defeat when in one of the closest races ever run off in the Morton pond, they copped the event from the home quartet by about four feet. One record for the Morton tank was broken in the course of the afternoon. Tucker of Morton took the 100 vard swim in the time of 1:01.7. Senior 40 yard swim--1. Sredl (M.); 2. Ben- nett (N. T.); 3.
