Country Day Cagers Split "Fifty-Fifty" With Parker The boys' basketball teams of North Shore Country Day school succeeded in getting a "fifty-fifty" break with the Francis Parker teams in the matches on Friday, March 9. North Shore's first team defeated their opponents 38 to 19, but North Shore's second team lost its game, 15 to 25. Bishop Charles P. Anderson and his daughter, Nancy, while in Winnetka for a few days, about a week ago, were the house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Requa of 768 Sheridan road. TRUCK EXPECT RENEWED WAR ACTIVITY IN CHINA (Continued from Page 3) Dickinson of the Chicago university Graduate department to get her to speak for the Young People's club about China, and chiefly Yenching? We would like you always to have us in mind because this university, more than any other in China, has more of the Winnetka Community spirit, and community fellowship and it studies all the latest methods of education. It interested me to hear of the ac- tion taken by the Congregational church in Winnetka in connection with our missionaries--there is something to be said on both sides; but it is noticeable that the people who have refused government protection are the first to leave this country when the Chinese are in trouble, Winngrka TALK comes regularly. I shall eagerly await the next issue to learn of the amount raised for the new church, I well remember the canvass for the present church and for the Community House; since then, how much progress has been achieved both materially and spiritually. You will be interested to hear what our Christian students do during the Chinese New Year vacation. This is the period of absolute cessation of all work for at least three days. The stu- dents go in groups of from four to twelve out to the rural districts and hold meetings. One energetic young woman, whose father is a Congrega- tional minister in Fukien, and is the oldest of eleven children, is one of our pre-medical students. She had no idea how cold her trip would be. Fortu- nately, IT heard of the scantiness of her wardrobe and supplied her with some warm clothes. You know the Chinese clothes are all made of padded cotton. I shortened my old fur-lining and she wore it under one of her own long coats. We are as interested as Winnetka in the struggle to eradicate mosquitoes. There is so much stagnant water here and in these breeding-places the yel- low fever mosquito has been found. We are going to start early in April to spray with paris green so as to kill the larvae. Last year we started too late and Mrs. Frame's daughter had malaria in the summer, She first had chicken pox, while convalescing from that had a chill and I found on exam- ination of the blood the malaria plas- modia. She will have to continue tak- ing quinine for some time. My love to you all. Your friend, Alice Barlow-Brown. Feb. 5, 1928.
