March 31, 1928 WINNETKA TALK Thomas J. Lynch Has Tree Surgery Exhibit at Show Tree surgery, through which the life span of the old oaks and elms along the north shore has been extended many years, and in which work "Doc- tor" Thomas J. Lynch of 564 Lincoln avenue occupies a corresponding rank with the noted surgeons who are working for human welfare, is attract- ing much interest at the second annual Flower and Garden show in Chicago this week. Mr. Lynch has a booth in the com- mercial section of the show where his tree surgery display is attracting throngs of people every day. The display comprises two miniature trees showing the methods used by the Thomas J. Lynch organization in excavating cavities, bolting and brac- ing. A section shows this type of work in its completed form and an- other shows the tree as it was before the tree surgeons began the opera- tion. One of the large pneumatic air ham- mers which tree surgeons use in the modern methods of tree treatment is being shown, and attendants explain that 50% less time is required to do this work, as compared with the old method, in which the mallet and chisel were used.
