Twelve candidates braved the weather to address the Winnetka voters, coming from Calumet City, Harvey, Des Plaines, Brookfield, Chi- cago, and Wilmette, representing the offices of sanitary district, state legis- lator, and state's attorney. Not only were they given an oppor- tunity to explain their platform, but they also had a chance to listen to an interesting and instructive talk on Home Rule by Dr. A. R. Hatton of the Political Science department of Northwestern university. The advan- tages of giving the municipalities the power to determine their own form of government and of handling situations which have to do only with themselves, were pointed out by Dr. Hatton as benefiting both the cities and the leg- islature. As author of Home Rule Amendment for the state of Ohio, and of the Cleveland Charter, he has much to teach us in the successful policy of making the voter responsible for his own community and consequent im- provement in city rule. The Izaak Walton flag, won by Win- netka in the last general election for having the largest percentage of the qualified voters at the polls, was on display and the contest was explained by George B. Massey, president of the Winnetka Izaak Walton league. The Republican candidates were in- troduced by Eugene Rummler and the Democratic by Ralph M. Snyder. Mrs. A. M. Ferry and Mrs. D. Bligh Grasell acted as timekeepers. Mrs. R. S. Childs, Mrs. I. M. Portis, Mrs. W. B. Pavey, and Mrs. Edwin E. Brown handled the distribution of the literature. The Young Men's group of the North Shore Congregation Israel will meet Sunday afternoon, April 1, at 2:30 o'clock, in the Temple library. Members are urged to be present. Tose Mr. and Mrs. Frank A.
