April 14, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 11 National Music Supervisors Hold Conference Here The Music department at New Trier High school is to take a very active part in the Music Supervisors' Na- tional convention, which is to be held in Chicago next week. Mrs. Marian Cotton, head of the Music Depart- ment at New Trier, is also secretary, and a member of the executive com- mittee of the convention. On Saturday, April 14, the annual music memory contest is to be held at Orchestra Hall, and after the contest is completed, and while the judges are making their decisions, the New Trier orchestra will appear in concert. This will be a great oportunity, as the contest is well known, and Orchestra Hall will be filled with music lovers and those interested in music. New Trier is sending a music memory team to the contest, as usual. New Trier teams in the past have been very successful, and New Trier has hopes of eaualing former suc- cesses. The team this year is composed of the following members: Lottie Kuenkele, Dorothy Paley, Elaine Nel- son, Rose Fieman, Georgia Schoenthal and Marion Jean Sax. On Monday, April 16, the orchestra, band, and glee clubs will give a con- cert in the New Trier auditorium, for the benefit of the visiting superyisors. On Tuesday, a group of students from New Trier and Evanston High schools will act as a music appreciation class, under Miss Sadie Rafferty as teacher. Forty girls of the girls' glee club have been invited to act as ushers at a formal banquet at the Stevens hotel on Thursday evening, April 19, On Tuesday, April 17, the boys' and girls' glee clubs will present a concert at Lyon and Healy hall. North Shore Students at Scholarship Dinner Miss Catherine Bickham, 429 Ninth street, and Miss Francis M. Hughes, 941 Sheridan road, Wilmette, have been invited to a scholarship dinner which the deans of Ohio Wesleyan university will give Monday evening, April 16. The dinner is to be given in honor of members of the freshmen class who made an average grade of "B" or better in coures taken during the first semester this year. The scholarship dinner is being given for the first time this year as a part of the general effort which Ohio Wes- levan university is making to pro- mote greater interest in scholarship throughout the student body. Dr. William E. Smyser, dean of the col- lege of liberal arts, Mrs. Eugenie R. Overturf, dean of women, and Wil- liam I. Sanders, dean of men, are spon- soring the dinner and will act as hosts. Only 104 freshmen out of a class of approximately 600 attained a grade average of "B" or higher during the first semester. RECEIVE REPORT CARDS New Trier students received their report cards for the second grading period of the second semester Tues- day, April 10.
