Thomas, Baritone, Sings for Music Club John Charles Thomas, celebrated American baritone, will be the fifth and last of the artists presented by the Winnetka Music club in its 1928- 29 Artist Recital series next winter. For the past three seasons Mr. Thomas has been dividing his time be- tween concert and grand opera. In Europe he has a distinguished reputa- tion as the leading baritone of the Royal Opera at Brussels, while in the United States his recitals have gained him a wide vogue. Of this artist the New York Sun says: "Though Mr. Thomas' voice is a baritone, its quality actually recalls Caruso's in the mating of a golden resonance with a luscious richness. And his art recalls at times the superb am- plitude of Caruso and at times the mar- velous finesse of Edmond Clement. As a rule it is no compliment to a singer to measure his attainments by a Caruso and a Clement, but Mr. Thomas can stand up and carry the compliment." The music critic of the New York Tribune voices his appreciation of this sterling singer: "Mr. Thomas has a rarely beautiful voice, sonorous in qual- ity and admirably developed. His breath control, phrasing, and diction in Italian, French, German and Eng- lish are greatly to be admired. As an interpreter, he has taste, intelli- gence, versatility and imagination." Hoyt; 490 Cherry street, with their children and Mrs. Hoyt's brother, Billy Cunning- ham, are leaving about June 29, to spend three weeks at Vermillion lake which is located a number of miles north of Duluth, Minn. 39 Kenilworth Pupils Receive Their Diplomas Thirty-nine eighth grade pupils at the Joseph Sears school in Kenilworth received diplomas at the annual gradu- ation exercises held in the school as- sembly room at 2:30 yesterday after- noon. The presentation of diplomas was made by Homer Johnson, a member of the Kenilworth schoo! board. E. L. Nygaard, superintendent of the Kenilworth Public schools, presented the class. Dr. Herbert I. Willett, pastor of the Kenilworth Union church, gave the in- vocation and benediction. George Woodland, a representative of the sev- enth grade at the school, accepted the class gift on behalf of his class.
