June 23, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 19 Children's Theater Here Will Be Center of Summer Classes Evanston's pioneering in the field of the Children's theater will bear fruit in the future when other like groups are organized in various other places by students who will come here this sum- mer to study this phase of dramatics. A children's theater course has been added to the curriculum of the School of . Speech, Northwestern university, for the six weeks' summer term, June 25 to August 4, to be taught by Miss Winifred Ward, organizer of the Ev- anston's Children's theater and its director, and Dean Farnsworth, its production manager. It. will be offered as a practical laboratory course in organizing, managing and directing a children's theater, and in staging plays. The problems will be worked out by the actual production of a three-act play, in which the students will cover every phase of the directing, acting, produc- tion' and management. The play will be A. A. Milne's "Make-Believe." Students in the School of Speech will play the adult parts, and children in the summer classes in dramatics will play the chil- dren's parts. It will be produced for the public late in July. Another course for junior dramatic directors is "Creative Dramatics for Children." This course is offered dur- ing the year also, with opportunity for observation and practice teaching in the public school dramatic department. These classes are nearly full already, but there are a few vacancies, and parents wishing to have their children enroll should notify the School of Speech office at once. Children taking these courses will be advanced to higher classes in dramatics when they return to the public schools in the fall. The Evanston public school is among the pioneers in the kind of creative dramatic work it is doing. Devere-Doig Wedding Solemnized in Michigan Miss Frances Devere became the bride of James Doig, son of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Doig, 820 Oakwood ave- nue, Wilmette, Saturday afternoon. The ceremony was performed in the garden of the home of Miss Devere's mother, Mrs. Mary Devere, at "Wal- nut Glen," Burmingham, Mich., by the Rev. Stephen A. Lloyd, formerly pas- tor of the Wilmette Congregational church and now pastor of a church in Pontiac, Mich. Miss Rosalind Devere, sister of the bride, was maid of honor, and Edward Purnell of Evanston was Mr. Doig's best man. Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Hard- wick of Wilmette and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Green of Barrington, formerly of Wilmette, were among the number of guests who motored to the wedding. The bride wore a simple frock of palest orchid chiffon and carried a bouquet of white roses and orchids. Her maid of honor was dressed in varied shades of rose colored chiffon and her bouquet was of pink roses. The ceremony was performed beneath they will return to Evanston to reside.
