Office, Longbeach 7830 Kenilworth 1576 for Glencoe Building Figures for July Show Big Increase Building construction figures re- leased this week for July 1928 show that the Village of Glencoe spent $76,- 735 more on building projects during that month than during the corres- ponding month in 1927. There was a 54 per cent increase, the comparative figures being $216,585 for July 1928 and $139,850 for July 1927. At the same time there was a de- crease in building construction in Wil- mette, Kenilworth, and Winnetka. Glencoe also enjoyed a 283 per cent increase during last month over the previous month in building construc- tion. Suburban building construction par- alled the city of Chicago in display- ing the building gain in July over the same month last year. Out of thirty-four comparable sub- urbs, according to the building survey department of the S. W. Straus com- pany, the July gain was 18 percent while the gain over June this year was nine percent. Elmwood Park outdistanced all the other suburbs in July gains with a record of $1,472,940 as against $102,305 last year, or a gain of 1,339 percent. Elmwood Park made a gain over June of this year of 1,253 percent. Evanston eclipsed its traditional ri- val, Oak Park. In July Evanston had a building volume permitted for of $1,050,050 as against $624,550 in July last year, or a gain of 68 percent. Ev- anston's gain as against June of this year was 46 percent. Oak Park with a July volume this year of $416,800 made a gain over July last year of only three percent and as against Only Little Things... Beyond what is usual and necessary are the finer shades of service--acts of courtesy, deeds of kindness--offering mingled variety and grace to Orrington life. The suburbs making gains in July over June and their percentages of increase were: Forest Park 778 per- cent, Glencoe 283 percent, Geneva 275 percent, Lake Forest 137 percent, Joliet 117 percent, Aurora 111 percent, [a Grange 105 percent, Chicago Heights 100 percent, Cicero 68 per- cent, Des Plaines 66 percent, Elm- hurst 52 percent, Elgin 45 percent, River Forest 32 percent, East Chi- cago 21 percent, Calumet City 20 per- cent, Maywood 15 percent, Park Ridge 14 percent, Highland Park eight per- cent, Wheaton one percent. Invite Neighbor States to Sewage Plant Opening While the program has not been fully completed, it is expected that officials of neighboring states which have been protesting against diversion of water from Lake Michigan by the Sanitary district will be among the principal guests when the new sewage treatment plant at Oakton street and McCormick boulevard is formally opened, according to sanitary district officials. They are to be invited te attend in order that they may see at first hand what the sanitary district is doing to reduce the amount of water needed while, at the same time, prop- erly safeguarding the health of the millions of people it serves. The defi- nite date for the opening has not been announced but it will be some- time between Sept. 1 and Sept. 15.
