WINNETKA TALK Winnetka's Water Carnival Deferred to Sunday, Aug. 19 Owing to the rough "sea" Sunday following the "northeaster" of Satur- day, the seventh annual water carni- val of the Winnetka Park district was again postponed until Sunday, Au- gust 19. It was originally planned for Sun- day, August 5, when, owing to unfa- vorable weather, it was postponed un- til the following Sunday, which, much to the regret of the Park district au- thorities, was another rough day as far as the water was concerned. The program iucludes a long list of events for which the Park board has provided attractive medals for first, second and third places. The races will start at 3 o'clock. One of the principal events will be the Intervillage Relay Championship for the Winnetka Park District cup. Winnetka now has two legs to the cup. Victory this year means it will remain in the village permanently, Those who will probably comprise the Winnetka team in tomorrow's race will be, Harold Lang, Edward Lang, Everett Chambers and Frank Stover. The Glencoe team, in all probability, will comprise such well known swim- mers as Robert Clyne, Warren Burke, Gordon Ramsey and John Lynn. Representing Wilmette will prob- ably be Laurin Bennett, Austin Zim- merman, Bill Holmes and Jim Ten- cher. Kenilworth, also, will probably have a team in the race. Announcement is made that Tom Robinson, swimming coach at North- western University, with whom ar- rangements had been made to officiate as starter and announcer, will be un- able to be here tomorrow, and in his place has been procured Tom Gonzer, a former Winnetka Life guard, who has had long experience in handling aquatic events. He will be assisted by Fay Falcon, also a former Winnetka life guard and James Allen, beach mas- ter, and Walter Etzbach, life guard. More than a thousand mem- bers of the regimental association and their wives will be the guests. The regiment was made up from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky, the men spending ten months in action in France. Wendell S. Merick is in charge of arrangements.
