{ August 25, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 15 Keen Rivalry in Competition for Tennis Supremacy Bill Morris, Senn High school tennis thampion, got a chance to compete in the finals of the junior singles divis- ion of the tennis tournament at New Trier High school, when Bob Stew- art, Florida boys' champion who had defeated him in the semi-finals, left for Florida to compete in a tourna- ment there. Stewart's withdrawal also left John Iliff in the running, but Morris eliminated him this week in straight sets of 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. John Sheldon, winner of last year's tournament, who is favored to meet Morris in the finals, advanced a step further this week by defeating R. Mc- Lean, 6-3, 6-0. He will play John Parker in the quarter finals, and if he wins he will meet the winner of the G. Glover-E. Lange match for the right to battle Morris for the cham- pionship. Sheldon, who is also entered in the senior singles division, mowed down his opposition there too. He defeated Crawford, 6-3, 6-3, this week and will play the winner of the McLean-Weld match for the right to compete in the semi-finals. Others who reached the quarter finals in the senior singles tournament were Obermeier, who de- feated Bob Nelson 7-5, 6-1; Dave Kram, who defeated R. Brown 6-0, 6-0; P. Fleming and R. Whitsett. Three pairs of teams reached the semi-finals in the doubles tournament being played at New Trier--Holter- Fleming by defeating Booth-Sheldon 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, McLain-O'Brien by de- feating Kahler-Snyder 6-0, 6-3, and Seddon-Calvert by defeating Whitsett- Iliff 6-2, 1-6, 6-2. Holter-Fleming and MclLain-O'Brien will clash in one of the semi-finals matches, while Seddon and Calvert will meet the winner of the Cram-Lange and Weld-Burke match in the other semi-finals event.
