At least, that is the impres- sion to be gathered from the fact that Joe Driscoll, featured player and busi- ness manager of the Graeme Players, was seen talking confidentially to Manager Koppel of the Alcyon re- cently. Meanwhile the Alcyon continues to present the best it can obtain in stage and screen entertainment. This Saturday, September 1, the offering is "The Wright Idea," with Johnny Hines. Johnny is an inventor named Mr. Wright who invented a blotter and luminous ink. The Wright idea is the one about how to sell the inven- tion. But there is more to the story. Louise Forraine is the girl. "Jazz Mad," to be shown at the Al- cyon tomorrow, isn't what the title leads you to think it is. There are jazz music and cafe scenes in it, but they are merely incidental. The main theme concerns itself with a German musician and composer, famous and beloved in his own part of the coun- try, who comes to New York to sell a symphony he has written. He meets heartbreak--and_ final happiness. The picture as a whole is excellently pro- duced. Direction, acting, and photog- raphy are fine throughout. "The Strange Case of Captain Ram- per," coming to the Alcyon next Wed- nesday and Thursday, is a strange pic- ture. It is concerned with a certain Captain Ramper, who flies into the frozen north and meets tragedy. He is forced to land in desolate regions. His brain doesn't die, but goes to sleep. Many years later he is capture by a whaling crew who believe him a beast. He finally lands in a cage at Coney Island, where he is exhibited as a great curiosity. Here doctors discover him. His brain is awakened--with what result the picture will show you. In "None But the Brave," Alcyon attraction for next Friday, September 7, Charles Morton has the role of the young smart aleck, who, after taking all the medals for athletics in college, sets forth confidently to beat , the world as an insurance salesman.
