Eight of the nine permits were for new residences, costing $149,500, and one was for a three car garage, cost- ing $700, bringing the grand total up to $150,200, a gain of 441 percent over the total valuation of permits issued in August a year ago. Two of the new improvements are on the east side, one on Sheridan road, costing $42,000 and the other on Ox- * ford road, costing $33,000. A permit was issued to the Sides Construction company for C. IL. Fred- erick, for a two story tile and stucco residence and attached two car garage, at 250 Sheridan road. costing $42,000. New Home for Lindseys R. E. Crosby, the Winnetka builder, took out a permit for Arthur J. Lind- sey, of Wilmette, for whom he is building a two story brick veneer resi- dence and attached garage at 260 Ox- ford road, to cost $33,000. A permit was taken out for Bena- dette. Lidecker by V. E. Lidecker, for a two story brick veneer and an at- tached garage, at 728 Cummings ave- nue, costing $16,000. W. C. Huggins took out a permit for A. B. Welty, for a two story residence and attached garage, at 542 Brier street, costing $15,000. A permit for a two story brick ve- neer residence at 620 Temple court, to cost $13,500, was taken out by L. C. Cliff for Carmen Tortoriello. Mr. Tor- toriello is the well known "shorty" at the Elevated Terminal in Wilmette. Other Building Operations H. W. Carlson is building one of the many new residences in the Mannus Indian Hill sub-division for which a permit was issued last month. It is located at Cummings avenue, and like most of the other fine new homes featuring this section will be of brick. The permit was for $11,000. Otto A. It will be a two story brick veneer, with detached two car garage, and costing $9,000. Harry Linn also took out a permit for a three car brick garage at 521 Kenilworth avenue, costing $700. The month of September lead off with permits for two new residences issued during the first five days of the month, indicating that the present month promises to continue as good as August, The month of August witnessed the beginning of five new residences in Glencoe, three of which are being built by G. F. Gonsalves, on Dundee road, each at a cost of $16,000. They are each two stories and of brick veneer. One is located at No. 554, one at 566 and the other at 607. Lyman A. Drake, Jr., is building a two story brick veneer residence at 476 South avenue, costing $25,000. A building permit was issued to R. P. McElroy for a two story brick and concrete residence at 420 Adams street, costing $12,000, and two other permits, one for a remodeling job costing $15,000 and a private garage, costing $350, brought the total for the month to $100,350.
