WINNETKA TALK October 6, 1928 Critics Sing Praise . permanent home in Chicago. It is of American Opera something distinctly new and dis- came back from Company in Chicago tinctly American. It makes music (Contributed) Everyone who read Edward Moore's praise of the opening performance of the American Opera company could not fail to wish to hear them. "They may be setting a dangerous, a revolu- tionary precedent," he writes, "but when you hear Marguerite sing the Jewel song in a way which does not in the least suggest a stunt of vocalism, but only a joyous outpouring of youth- ful spirits, you begin to wonder if Mrs. Rosing has not hit on something more important than all the expensive voices in the world." Mrs, Rosing has made it "natural and graceful and rhyth- matic," showing Faust is a drama as well as a musical score. The American Opera company decided some months ago to make its drama of all the operas, combining all the arts in a single organized prod- uct. Furthermore, it uses the English language and one can easily under- stand. The artist's diction is so good and each word is given its proper value in such a way that the result is splen- did. It offers a remarkable opportun- ity to educate young people in opera because the are able to understand, so that the performance will be more than just music plus pantomime for One young man returned here after studying in Italy four years, another Paris. A young woman with Winnetka connections was too late for the first tryouts but re- cently, after her voice had been heard. she was accepted but told that the budget had been depleted. She joined the company for experience and de- clares she has never known anything like it in all her years of study here and in New York. The boxes and seats have had a re- markable sale but there are still some subscription books which contain seven tickets. These are exchangable by telephone for any reserved seats on Monsieur Cauuet's School Opens For Thirty Lessons Monsieur Georges Cauuet's School of Languages is re-opening this month for a term of thirty lessons.
