Independence, Iowa Auto 'Broadsides' Train; Two Motorists Injured F. L. Holmes, 650 Grove street, Glencoe, and Charles W. Brenchley, of 1124 Linden avenue, Wilmette, were taken to the Evanston hospital last Thursday morning as a result of in- juries received when the car in which they were riding ran into the side of a northbound North Shore line train at the Linden avenue crossing. Holmes and Brenchley were going east on Lin- den avenue, with Holmes at the wheel, according to the police report. Brench- ley suffered a severe cut over the left eye, while Holmes received face and body injuries. The car was badly damaged. Swigart Trio Broadcasts Sunday Evening Program The Swigart trio consisting of George Swigart, violinist; Estelle Swi- gart, "cellist; and Frances Anderson of Winnetka, pianist, presented the first of the Sunday evening musicales in the Tudor lounge of the Orrington hotel last week. The concert was broadcast over the radio station WEHS. Next Sunday, Mr. Swigart and Miss Swigart will return to their work at the North Shore hotel with Mrs. Helen Hawk Carlisle of Evanston as pianist. RETURNS FROM VACATION Walter C. Yackel, assistant to Vil- lage Manager F. IL. Streed of Kenil- worth, was back at his duties in the Kenilworth Village hall Monday morn- ing after a two weeks' vacation spent in St. Louis, Mo. Mrs. Percy Skillen, who with her two sons, has made her home in the Indian Hill section, has moved into an apartment in Spanish Court. Mr. Brownell is enroute to New York from his home in Santa Monica, Cal, where he has spent the summer with his parents. In New York he will again take up his work in music at the Juillard Musical Foundation, where he has been studying for the past two years, This coming year's work is in the nature of an exceptional triumph, for it signifies the winning of a Juillard Fellowship by Mr. Brownell for the third successive year. It is unusual enough for a young singer to win a second fellowship, so that to win a third one is a great achievement and a distinct honor. Mr, Brownell possesses a rich tenor voice which he uses with rare ability and skill. Friends on the north shore have prophesied a brilliant future for this young singer, and he seems to work- ing right ahead to fulfill these prophe- cies. During his last year at Juillard he sang as soloist in a New York church, as well as broadcasting fre- quently over WJZ and WEAF in New York. He also appeared in concerts at the Juillard. Although nominally taking a vaca- tion this past summer, Mr. Brownell continued to work. He filled the po- sition of tenor soloist in the Pilgrim Evangelical Lutheran church at Santa Monica and broadcasted frequently over KNX in Los Angeles and from a Santa Monica station as well. On his return to New York Mr. Brownell will return to his work as a church soloist and to his radio broad- casting, while continuing his studies at the Juillard. Miss Jean M.
