November 10, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 33 Says Novel Test Proves Co-eds Are Level-Headed Lot Only twenty coeds out of 275 at Northwestern university consider cig- arets a necessity; fifty-two are doubt- ful whether they should be classed as a necessity or a luxury; while the rest, or 203, are emphatically of the opinion that they are a luxury. These facts were revealed yesterday in the replies to a questionnaire sent to 500 university coeds by the Y. W. C. A. to discover the importance of particular expenditures in the budgets of Northwestern coeds. Two hundred and seventy-five answers to the ques- tionnaire have been received. While cigarets are regarded by the majority in the light of a luxury, sport clothes are considered a necessity in the replies of two hundred and fifty- one. In the matter of fur coats, opin- ions seem to be fairly well divided. One hundred and fifteen regard them as a necessity, while 160 place them in the luxury class. Practically all believe that books, fountain pens and wrist watches are ab- solute necessities and eighty-six of the: 275 are: of the same opinion with res- | pect to typewriters. Candy, gum, theaters and motion pictures, trips to the football games and motor cars are placed in the lux- ury class by most of the coeds. Only twenty-five regard candy as a neces- sity, and thirteen believe that chewing gum) is a necessary adjunct to their lives. Sixty feel that the theater is a necessity and fifty-two entertain the same opinion of the movies. Only twenty-nine of the 275 look upon trips to the football games in the light of a necessity. And in 'the opinion of all except thirty-nine, motor cars should be regarded as a'luxury. "These replies indicate that univer- sity women as a whole are level-headed and sensible," said E. H. Hahne. assist- ant dean of the college of liberal arts. Tickets Now Selling for That Illinois-Ohio Game ~ Ohio State and Illinois, hereditary football rivals, will meet in the Illinois stadium in the last game of the sea- son, November 24, in what is certain to be one of the most important games in the Big Ten. Ohio State, providing it defeats Towa November 10, will come to the sta- dium undefeated by a conference rival and victory will assure the Buckeyes the championship. Illinois travels to Indianapolis No- vember 10 to play Butler and Novem- ber 17 to Chicago to meet Stagg's Maroons. Stay-at-homers are looking forward to the Ohio State game and thousands will travel to Champaign from all parts of the state and Indiana. The ex- citement of homecoming made many fans defer booking their seats for the game but now the ticket office is going at a merry clip, filling hundreds of mail orders daily, Bowen, ticket manager, an- nounces that the sale is well on its way toward the 25000 mark. From now on it will be accelerated but thou- sands of most desirable seats will be available, since the stadium seats 65,000. There are no restrictions of any kind upon the purchase of tickets.
