Preliminary tryouts were held three weeks ago, and from the eight con- testants who tried out at that time only one, Dorland Davis, was assured a place as a regular on one of this year's teams. John Erickson, a member of the team which defeated Cleveland in 1927 when that team was champion of Ohio, also will be one of New Trier's debate representatives this year. New Trier and Cleveland will clash for the third time next May. Thus far each school has won one of the intersec- tional debates. Both boys and girls are eligible to try out for places on one of New Trier's teams, each of which will ne composed of three members. More than twenty students early this week had signified their intention of com- peting in the tryouts. They are: Lois Goldstein, Helen Bosley, Betty Holmes, James Edmonds, Marjorie Koenig, Olin Sethness, Bill Horsting, Earl Lingle, Bob Livingston, George Weid- inger, James Alden, Albert Denton, Howard Bleser, Margaret Washburn, Phil von Ammon, Lowell Comee, Jim Alsdorf, Lawrence Doty, Bill Rich, C. Phillips, Joe Rich, and William Con- nor. In addition to the Cleveland debate, New Trier has scheduled debates with Urbana and Roosevelt High school of Chicago. The Urbana contest will be the fifth of a series between the two schools. Thus far New Trier has won three out of four. Noted Brooklyn Preacher at Congregational Church Dr. Nehemiah Boynton of Brooklyn, N. Y., will preach at the Winnetka Congregational church, Sunday morn- ing at 11 o'clock. His sermon topic will be, "The World Upside Down." Dr. Boynton will be the preacher here throughout the month of December.
