And have you thought it over and decided that there is noth- ing to make but painted furniture or sofa pillows? Well, you're wrong. There are a lot of interesting things to make that you probably haven't thought about as yet. Look at the window shades in one of the upstairs bedrooms. Do they look soiled at the edges? You can cure them by enam- eled silhouettes. Draw a row of flow- ers or sky-scraper silhouettes or, in the children's room draw bunnies and kittens and dogs around the bottom with a pencil You can't draw? Then buy one of these patterns which are first aid to everyone who can't draw but wants to dabble in paint, and apply it with a hot iron. Now fill in the outline with black or colored enamel. For the lampshades, there are a few new ways of doing things. One is to stretch chiffon over the thin parch- ment paper and paint your stamped design in sealing wax dissolved in alcohol, oil, water paints, or dye. Then the whole is shellaced. Another meth- od is to cut out attractively colored papers in a modernistic design, paste them on the shade, and shellac it. The lamp base may be made with sealing wax over two cardboard cut out forms. An oval or round piece of cardboard may be used for the base and the lamp cord is concealed be- tween two cut out pieces. This is waxed over roughly and the design finished when it is reheated. Since quilting is the vogue, quilts for each bedroom may be made ta harmonize and then used instead of bedspreads. Pillows may be made to match. Quaint rugs may be made from the new hooked work designs. One real French needlepoint design has been offered recently for the wom- an who takes delight in yarns. Crewel work luncheon runner and mats are among the novelties. The new card tables and matching chairs have prompted someone to de- sign a really new bridge set. The table cover has four matching little cushions in the forms of the trumps. They are just right for that provoca- uve little ridge.
