December 1, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 57 School Catechism for Illinois Has Much Information Supt. Carleton Washburne, of the Winnetka Public schools, has been no- tified that in response to numerous requests for information concerning the school system of Illinois, the Illi- nois State Teachers association has just issued a "Public School Catechism for Illinois." It is a 16 page pamphlet of 60 questions and answers prepared by the research department from offi- cial reports in the office of the su- perintendent of public instruction and other authentic sources. Its purposes are to furnish correct information con- cerning the common schools, to pro- mote an understanding of their prob- lems, and to create an interest in the solution of those problems. The members of the I. S. T. A. real- ize that the public school system is a state institution belonging to the peo- ple, paid for by the people, and con- trolled by officials elected by the peo- ple. They know also that the changes and improvements necessary in the system from time to time must be guided by correct and authentic infor- mation concerning the system. The catechism is designed to impart such information. It will be found useful by parent-teacher associations, wo- men's clubs, chambers of commerce, the members of civic organizations, and all other individuals and organi- zations interested in the proper devel- opment of our public schools.
