M. "Show People" Tells How It's Done in Hollywood "Show People," in which theater patrons get a glimpse of how they do it out in Hollywood, will be shown at the Norshore for one week beginning this Saturday, December 1. The pic- ture is breezy, different, funny, and alive from start to finish, and, as usual, Marion Davies, who has the leading role, gives a smart performance. Marion is Peggy Pepper, the pride of Savannah, who motors with her Colonel father to Hollywood, expect- ing to take the leading part in a pic- ture. The going is not so easy, how- ever, and it is only with the aid of Billy Boone (William Haines), a com- edian, that Peggy gets her start. But it is comedy instead of the drama that she wanted. Of course Peggy and Billy fall in love. But success turns Peggy's head and she gives Billy the air. Instead of plain Peggy Pepper it is Miss Patricia Pepoire after the lady goes dramatic. She is to marry her leading man, and on the wedding day Billy, who hasn't been invited to the nuptial ceremonies, enters through the servants' entrance. From this time on events happen faster than ever, as the picture will show you. UNIVERSITY Underworld Picture on Teatro del Lago Bill This Saturday "The Cop," said to be one of the best underworld pictures produced to date, will be shown at the Teatro del Lago this Saturday, December 1. Wil- liam Boyd has the leading role, and Jacqueline Logan plays opposite him. The story deals with the efforts of Smithie, a handsome young policeman in New York's underworld, to preserve order on his beat. He had formerly been a bridge tender and one night renders first aid to Scarnose Marcas, a safe-cracker who had been shot. The man repays his benefactor by robbing him and Smithie joins the force in order to run down rats such as Mar- cas, The plot is considerably com- plicated when Smithie meets Mary Monk, the pretty bookkeeper em- ployed by Marcas. The Sunday attraction at the Teatro del Lago will be "Phillis of the Follies." Alice Day and Matt Moore have the leading roles. "Two Lovers" Coming Monday "Two Lovers," with Ronald Colman and Vilma Banky as its leading play- ers, comes to the Teatro del Lago on Monday for two days. It is Samuel Goldwyn's farewell presentation of one of the most famous duets in screen history. Laid against a background of war, "T'wo Lovers" tells the story of Mark VanRycke, son of the patrician burgomaster of Ghent, and of his se- cret adventures as "Leatherface," mys- terious and faithful aid to William, Price of Orange, who seeks to lead the enslaved country of Flanders to freedom from the oppressing hands of the Spaniards. Ronald Colman plays "Leatherface." Vilma Banky is Lenora, the flower of Spain, niece of the Duke of Azar, oppressor of the Flemish and commandant of the Spanish. The pic- ture was made from the popular novel, "Leatherface," by Baroness Orczy. Walter Pidgeon Stars in Picture at Varsity The Varsity theater in Evanston is now showing "The Melody of Love," with Walter Pidgeon, Mildred Harris, Jane Winton, and Tom Dugan. It is a story of love and war. Mr. Pidgeon is seen as a song writer, who, against the wishes of his boss, and a hard- boiled beautiful fiancee who makes her living singing his songs, goes forth with his comical-faced buddy (Mr. Du- gan) and joins the colors. Over there the song writer's right arm is put out of commission, and doctors say he will never be able to play again. Over there also, he meets the loving little Madelon --who follows him over here, results being most interesting, "The Perfect Crime," a mystery talking picture, is on the Varsity bill for next Monday, Tuesday, and Wed- nesday. The picture is said to be one of the most mysterious of detective story films. And it is unusual in that the detective is the perpetrator of the "perfect crime." Clive Brook, Irene Rich, Ethel Wales, Tully Marshall, and Gladys McConnell are the principals in an excellent cast. The Universal film corporation has bought all the rights to "The Luxury Husband," an English novel by Maysie Grieg. Lois Wilson has been signed to ap- pear opposite Edward Everett Horton in a series of two reel sound comedies.
