aE ym --r WINNETKA TALK December 1, 1928 PLAN VARIED PROGRAM AT DEDICATION OF GYM Magnificent New Structure at High School to Be Formally Opened Next Friday The complete program for the dedi- cation of New Trier High school's new $675,000 gymnasium Friday night, LCecember 7, was announced this week. The program is scheduled to start at 7 o'clock. The New Trier band will play sev- eral selections while the audience assembles. Cheers for the school, the various classes, and the visitors will be followed by the loyalty song and selec- tions by the high school orchestra and glee clubs. J. R. Gathercoal, president of the New Trier school board, will then make the official presentation of the new gymnasium to the township. A talk by Edward J. Phelps, chairman of the committee on student activities of the New Trier board, will follow the presentation speech. Grid Heroes on Parade After the speeches residents of the township who have not seen New Trier's champion football team per- form this year will have opportunity to watch the entire football squad parade across the stage. A dance by the Girls' Leaders' corps and members of the dancing classes and tumbling acts by the Boys' Leaders' corps of the high school will conclude the stage program. The usual school songs and yells will precede the basketball game with Englewood High school, which is scheduled to follow as soon as the floor is cleared. This game will open New Trier"s basketball season for 1928-1929. Open for Inspection After the game the entire gymna- sium will be open to the public. The structure is one of the finest high school gymnasiums in this vicinity. It was used for the first time when the annual commencement exercises were held there in June. Construction work had been in progress more than a year. Ray Schmidt Sentenced on Charge of Larceny Ray Schmidt of 518 Central avenue, Highland Park, last Tuesday was sentenced to prison from one to ten years by Judge Harry B. Miller, in the Criminal court, on a charge of larceny. The case against Mrs. Schmidt, who is the mother of a baby only a few weeks old, was nolle prossed, and it is possible that her husband may be released on proba- tion, it is said. A hearing on a motion for this disposal of his case has been set for December 4. The alleged theft of property from the C. R. Jacobs residence, 368 Elder lane, Winnetka, last September, was responsible for the larceny charges on which Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt were arrested by Win- netka police. Musical Society Will Offer Valentino Film "Monsieur Beaucaire," one of Rud- olph Valentino's greatest pictures, will be shown Wednesday night, Decem- ber 12. at the Auditorium hall. The showing will be given under the aus- pices of the Lake View Musical so- ciety for their scholarship fund. Coe Glade, a soprano with the Chicago Civic Opera company and Rudolph Rueter, pianist, will also take part in the concert. Tickets, which may be exchanged on December 3 or after at Orchestra hall for reserved seats, may be procured from Mrs, Arista B.
