The stars of the picture are Charles Farrell, famed for his per- formances in "Seventh Heaven" and "Street Angel," and Greta Nissen, noted Swedish actress. Desert scenes, elaborate and roman- tic Arabian backgrounds, and glimpses of Venice and Paris are among the things to be seen in "Fazil." The story, too, is interesting. Its theme is the eternal difference between east and west. Fazil, the Arabian, falls in love with a liberty-loving child of modern Paris, marries her, and then tries to understand her code of ethics, while she is as puzzled over Fazil's attitude. They separate, after a honeymoon in Paris, and the Arab goes back to his own people. But the story ends, as Commenting on the performances of Farrell and Miss Nissen in "Fazil," one well known Chicago critic has this to say: "Greta Nissen was never lovelier nor more appealing, nor a better ac- tress, than she is here, and Charles Farrell brings to his strange role all the great charm and magnetism that are his. Perhaps he doesn't get at your heart as he did im 'Seventh Heaven' and 'Street Angel' but he certainly gives a great performance." "Ramona," with Dolores del Rio and Warner Baxter, is to be on the screen there next Friday, December 28. There will be an extra matinee at 2:30 p. m. and the usual matinee at 4. p, m. "Ramona" is from a story by Helen Hunt Jackson which is regarded 3s one of the present day American clas- sics. When Mrs. Jackson decided to write the story she had a deliberate purpose and as high an aim as that associated with the writing of "Uncle Tom's Cabin." She did not realize that her story would prove one of America's most interesting romances. It was the writer's motive to bring the treatment of the Indians by the Americans before Congress in the hope that Congress would enact just laws. Before "Ramona" recalled the In- dians' plight in fiction from, Mrs. Jack- son had written "A Century of Dis- honor," and indictment of the govern- ment for its failure to keep its pro- mise with the Red Man from early times down to the date of the publica- tion of the book, 1880. Later she be- came convinced that public sympathy on behalf of the Mission Indians of California could be awakened if re- vealed in story form; hence her novel with a purpose--"Ramona." STAGE PLAYERS IN FILMS Five Broadway stage players, who have never appeared before movie cameras, are in the cast of the all- talking film version of "Nightstick," crook play seen in New York last sea- son. These stage players are Elea- nor Griffith, recent star of "The Spid- er" on the Broadway stage, Pat O'Malley, Chester Morris, Regis Too- mey, and Harry Stubbs. BEGINS WORK ON "VENUS" Constance Talmadge has begun work on her first United Artists pic- ture. It is entitled "Venus," a modern story, based on the novel of the same name by Jean Vingnaud, French journ- alist. Jean Murat, a Frenchman, is Miss Talmadge's leading man.
