Production of passenger cars during eleven months of this year amounted to 3,621,469, as against 2,840,518 in the same period of last year, and 2,946,601 for the whole of 1927, the automotive division of the Department of Commerce announced today. The output of passeuger ca:s in No- vember, based on factory sales, was approximately 100 per cent larger than in the same month of last year. Truck production also was far in excess of January-November period of last year, the total for the eleven months of this year being 502,756, as against 454,725 for the whole of 1927. The gain in total passenger car and truck production in the first eleven months of 1928 over the corresponding period of 1927 was 856,470, or 26 per cent. The passenger car output over this period increased 780,951, or 27 per cent. and the truck output gained 75,519, or 115 per cent. Road Tips Condition of roads in Illinois as re- ported by the Chicago Motor club fol- lows: ILLINOIS River road is closed between Grand avenue and Lake street; this section will be closed throughout the winter. Golf road is closed between East River road and Sherman avenue. 22nd street is closed between Mann- heim road and 17th avenue. 31st street is closed at Salt Creek. Dixie Highway is closed from 159th street to 175th street. Illinois-2--Has a short detour at Oregon, Ill, which is now impassable. This detour, which is around overhead construction, will be closed until Wed- .esday. Oregon is between Rockford and Dixon. Illinois-6--Detour at Westchester; follow marked detour over Pusheck road south to 22nd street; follow west to Mannheim road or Illinois-46; fol- low north to Illinois-6. Illinois-42--Detour in Lake Forest; follow marked detour over city streets. Plans of the Hudson Motor Car com- pany for the first half of 1929 contem- plate the building of 250,000 cars, of which 200,000 will be Essex and 50,000 Hudson. Hudson reports that the field stocks of Hudson and Essex cars total 17,000 units, the lowest in the com- pany's history. Hupp Closing Year With Great Record; 8 Million Profit The Hupp Motor Corporation will close the year with production, sales and earnings far in excess of any previous year, according to a report received by Gould C. Davis, Winnetka Hupmobile dealer. "For the year ending December 31, 1928, Hupp will show net profit after charges and taxes of around $8,500,000, equal to about $8 a share earned on 1,082,478 shares $10 par capital stock," said Mr. Davis. Such earnings would be 218 per cent greater than 1927 and 125 per cent greater than the re- sults of the previous record year, 1922. In 1927 net profit was $2,719,164, or $270 a share earned on 1,005,189 shares, and in 1922 net profit was $3,763,983. Car shipments for the current year are expected to total better than 65,500, or 60 per cent greater than 1927 ship- ments of 41,161 cars. Previous record year for shipments was 1926 when total was 45,426 cars. Nash Company Distributes $807,000 in Xmas Bonuses The Nash Motors company distri- buted $807,000 in Christmas bonuses to its 12,000 employees in its Kenosha, Racine and Milwaukee plants. C. W. Nash, president of the com- pany, and Milton H. Pettit, vice-pres- ident, gave out the checks and cash in person. The $807,000 this year compares with a distribution of $731,000 a year ago.
