By circulating more than a million books during 1927, the Chicago Public Library established a world's record. i "The Lorraine," Garage Deluxe, Opens Here Jan. 7 The Lorraine, Winnetka's newest garage and one designed for service and unusual consideration of its patrons, will open January 7 at 664-6-8 Center street. Clarence Blomgren, proprietor of the new establishment has had many years' experience particularly qualify- ing him for the undertaking into which he launches at this time. The most modern architectural knowledge relative to garage construc- tion has been applied to the Lorraine garage, it is stated. B. W. Blow is the builder of the plant, from whom the structure is being taken over by Mr. Blomgren under a long time lease. Capacity has been a primary con- sideration, both for the presént and future needs of the village in the con- struction of the Lorraine. The build- ing has a floor space of 17,800 square feet, with a maximum storage capac- ity. of 150 cars. In addition there are numerous departments equipped with the modern machinery for the repair of cars, batteries, and tires, a con- venient gas and oil service and two large show rooms for the Auburn and Duesenberg cars which will be handled by Mr. Blomgren. The Lorraine has a frontage of 100 feet on Center street and is 150 feet wide in the rear. The structure is 153 feet maximum depth, being con- structed "L" shape, providing a re- pair shop 50 by 50 feet. Feature Delivery Service The gas-filling station and oil room are in the front, at the center, on either side of which are spacious doors for entrance and exit of cars. Offices and rest rooms for patrons are also on Center street, where cus- tomers calling for cars await delivery by a service man. Owners of cars stored at the Lorraine will be en- titled to delivery of their autos twice daily and a like number of calls for the car will be made each day if de- sired. All batteries are served, wind- shields cleaned and cars thoroughly dusted as a part of the storage service, it is pointed out. Seventeen sewer drain openings have been provided in the floor, which is constructed in such a manner as to drain to the rear of the cars as stored. Latest Electrical Equipment The electrical equipment, Mr. Blom- gren says, is the same as that which received the endorsement of naval engineers. Weidenhoff equipment was used on both the Lexington and Sara- toga, mother ships for the Navy's birdmen and the seventy-two planes comprising the compliment of each ship. Mr. Blomgren's experience as an automobile expert includes four years with the factory branch of the Willys Overland, at Davenport, Iowa; three and one-half years with the Chicago factory branch of the same company; one year with the Oldsmobile factory branch in Chicago; connection with the Cadillac, Packard and Moon com- pany branches and the Studebaker factory at South Bend, Ind. He also spent a year as master mechanic in charge of a large fleet of motor trucks in the south and has had much cx» perience in connection with automo- bile insurance and wreck work.
