SERVICE MEN APPRECIATE LIBRARY FILE
Express Approval of Plans for Permanent Record—Completion Requires Public Co-operation.It is becoming increasingly evident as the soldiers and airmen return from overseas that the Service File at the Public Library is to justify the arduous task of compiling it. From its inception it has been apparent that it is of much more interest to the soldiers, sailors, and airmen than to the civilian public. Veterans of this war recently returned from overseas have been finding their way to it in the Public Library. With one accord they express their approval of this plan to have a permanent record of those who participated in this battle for freedom. After an absence of four or five years many delight to spend considerable time in examining these records and rejoice to learn of promotions or honours won by their friends in the services. The records that bear the Silver Star denoting that the supreme sacrifice has been paid have more than passing interest for these men. Their unanimous approval of the method of preserving these records is a source of satisfaction to those who have undertaken this work. Their definite regret that the records are not complete and their desire to see the work continued removes any feeling of pride and is a source of concern to those who are willing to make these records of every one who has served or is serving but are not given the information and snapshots that are essential.
Citizens of the town and residents of the counties of Victoria and Haliburton are reminded that it is up to them to check his file and make sure that the records of their representatives in the services are entered and complete. The men and women are returning, may they find their names on our Honour Roll and records completely written!
