Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Arthurs, 22 Regent Street, have received official news that their son, L.-Cpl. Bernard Arthurs of the S.D. & G. Highlanders, has been wounded in action in Italy. The extent of his injuries is not known.
The Arthurs family were residents of Lakefield for many years before moving to Lindsay and Bernard, as well as his four brothers, all in active service are well known in Peterborough and district, Bernard enlisted at the age of 19, at Peterborough with the S.D. and G. Highlanders and following the training at Ottawa, went overseas in July, 1940. He has served in North Africa, Sicily and Italy.
His four brothers in the service are Basil, Clarke and John with the R.C.A. overseas and Clarence with the R.C.N.- Media Type

- Bernard Arthurs enlisted in Peterborough in Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry highlanders, October 1940, trained at Kingston, transferred to Debert, May, 1941. He went overseas July 1941, sent to Sicily May 1943, then to Italy as Corporal. He was promoted to Sergeant, and then wounded his arm on 22 December 1943. He was wounded again on 16 June 1944, but returned to combat.
