Hello Girls:

This is just a short note to let you know I received your carton of cigarettes O.K. and to thank you for the same. The cigarettes arrived several days ago but this has been my first chance to drop you a line of thanks. We certainly have been busy lately and the dust, heat and mosquitoes bother us nearly as much as the Hun does. This morning while we were eating our breakfast four Jerries came out of the woods and gave themselves up, they were only kids, two of them were only 16 years of age, they should have been in school, not in the front line. One of the new replacements we got turned out to be a cook, now our meals are more like meals. He makes porridge out of hardtack etc. I sure was glad to get somebody that could do more than make tea. I was promoted to gun sergeant a little over a month ago, promotion comes up pretty fast in action. I must scram now, so thanks again for the cigarettes and good luck to all your club members.

Sincerely Yours.
Clark Arthurs

Notes
This card is part of a larger collection of World War II personnel clippings. The project began in 1944 at the Lindsay Library. The intent was to gather together as much information as possible on the military record and the service of people from the Town of Lindsay and the County of Victoria (now Kawartha Lakes)who served in the war. To that end, during the years 1944, 1945, and 1946, members of the public donated photographs and updated information about their loved ones. Both library staff and the public saved and donated newspaper clippings. Some of the files contain great amounts of detail, while others have just a name.
