- Sergeant Alex Balfour enlisted in the Royal Canadian Dragoons in 1940. He trained at St. John’s, Que., Camp Borden and then was posted overseas. He was sent from England to Italy and returned to England for advanced training.

- Celebrations for VE-Day were dimmed for Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Balfour, Division St. when they received information that their son Sgt. Alex James Balfour had been killed in action.
Sgt. Balfour enlisted with the Royal Canadian Dragoons at St. John’s, Que. in August, ’40, going overseas in the fall of 1941. After further training in England he went to Italy in August, 1943, and returned to England in March 1944 to take a special course.
He was later transferred to the Manitoba Dragoons and went to France on ‘D’ Day. At the time of his death he was fighting with the Allied forces in Germany. - Date of Publication
