Staff Makes Presentation to Joe Brown
20 years with Warder, Joe Brown leaves for active service—Lieutenant in 45th Field Battery

Joe Brown, who has had 20 years continuous service with the Watchman-Warder, was honoured by the members of the staff when he was presented with a military pen and pencil set shortly before his departure to Petawawa. A member of the 45th Field Battery reserve unit at Lindsay since its organization, Joe Brown's ability was recognized when following his promotion to a sergeantcy he was recommended by his commanding officers for a commission.
His appointment has now been confirmed as a lieutenant in a Battery of the R.C.A. and he has already taken up duty at Petawawa. The young officer is popularly known in Lindsay and was for many years a member of the Lindsay Citizens' Band.

Notes
This card is part of a larger collection of World War II personnel clippings. The project began in 1944 at the Lindsay Library. The intent was to gather together as much information as possible on the military record and the service of people from the Town of Lindsay and the County of Victoria (now Kawartha Lakes) who served in the war. To that end, during the years 1944, 1945, and 1946, members of the public donated photographs and updated information about their loved ones. Both library staff and the public saved and donated newspaper clippings. Some of the files contain great amounts of detail, while others have just a name.
