Will be happy to settle down in Canada
Interesting sidelights on what the boys of the Air Force are doing overseas is contained in a letter from Pilot Officer T.H. (Tommy) Everson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Everson, of Lindsay written May 8th.
In part, F.O. Everson says:
I am addressing this letter to both of you because not that V.E. is here I can tell you what I have been doing the last couple of months. In March I came to Squadron and started my operations against Germany. Before the war packed up I managed to get in ten ops. Since the bombing has stopped I have made three trips to Holland dropping food supplies and one trip to Belgium to bring back a load of ex- P.O.W.’s. There is, I imagine, some of this work to do yet and I think I will still have some to do. Just what is expected of us has not been explained but I imagine that we should find out before long. I haven’t therefore as yet any idea of when I will be home although it will definitely be this summer.
It is good to know that no more of our fellows will be killed or wounded and that soon we can all come back to the homes we have missed so very much. I can well realize how some of the fellows who have been overseas for several years feel because I know how I feel having been over here almost a year. I have travelled enough to see all the country I want for a while and will be quite happy to settle down in Canada again.
