Gassien, F.J. joined the Army 7 July 1941. Received his training in Peterborough, London, and Kingston. He arrived overseas 4 November 1942 where he worked in Canadian Infantry Troop Workshop. Took part in invasion of Sicily in July 1943, and also in invasion of Italy same year. During 1944 he was in Italy connected with Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers.
