Horror of Hong Kong is now shared by the people of Haliburton

HALIBURTON, JAN. 8, (PNS)—Official word was received on Wednesday of the death of Pte. Elzie J. Henderson at Hong Kong. Pte. Henderson was the son of Mrs. Margaret Henderson and husband of Margaret Philips Henderson of Haliburton and was the father of three young children, two daughters and one son.

He enlisted over two years ago, leaving late in November on his fateful trip.

Although, during the months of anxiety, no word was received from the young soldier, his wife, mother, sisters and brothers were still quite hopeful that word eventually would come as they watched day after day for the mail.

Parcels and letters that were sent to him, were all returned.

During the summer he was listed as prisoner of war but the telegram this week was the first official word from Ottawa.

His two brothers, Austin Henderson and Oscar Henderson are in the R.C.A.S.C.

Pte. Henderson was attached to the Royal Rifles of Canada. His father died in England during World War Number One.

He was raised and educated in Haliburton.
