Cfn. Ross Irwin of Oakwood enlisted with the Canadian Army at Peterborough, Ontario on 5 October 1942. He attended trade school at Hamilton Ontario and graduated as Turner B1. In Barriefield Camp he completed a course as instrument mechanic D.D.A.
Cfn. Irwin was posted overseas in August 1943. He took part in the invasion and arrived in Sicily in November.
In March 1944, Cfn. Irwin was moved with the Cdn Corps Troops workshop to Holland. Attached to RCEME.
