Is fourth Lindsay Soldier now reported Jap prisoner – Enlisted with the Midland Regiment – Another brother in the Service

Mrs. William Marshall, 140 Kent St. East, has received official word from Ottawa that her son, Pte. Howard Marshall, is now a prisoner of war of the Japs at Hong Kong. It is the first word of any kind I have received in a year, said Mrs. Marshall, and we were very thankful to learn that he is well.

Pte. Howard Marshall, with his brother Orville Marshall, enlisted with the Midland Regiment in Lindsay, trained in the east and at Niagara Falls. He was one of fifty from the Midlands to be transferred to the Royal Canadians for service in the Pacific. He is the fourth Lindsay boy from the Midlands to be reported as prisoners in Hong Kong. The others are: Lt. W.S. Nugent, Pte. Herman McGregor and Pte. J. McKay. Still another Lindsay boy from the Midlands, Pte. A. Moir, has not been heard from.

Before enlisting, Pte. Howard Marshall worked at the Arsenal in Lindsay and previously worked in Northern Ontario. He for some years lived with his parents at Tony Hill, before moving to Lindsay.
