Our Museum recently had the opportunity to scan some local photos into our computer. The man who loaned us the photos received them as part of an estate, but outside his own circle, some of the images are unknown to him. One envelope contained 2 photos: One photo shows an oil delivery man (blurry /unclear face), standing beside a circa 1939 Dodge oil tanker truck w. the door marked "McColl-Frontenac / C. Maunder /Haliburton". The other is of a military grave marker for a "P/O C.L. Maunder, R.C.A.F.", who died on 21 April 1943. The oil truck photo is soiled & scuffed, presumably from being carried in a wallet. The grave photo is in good condition. Does anyone have any information on Mr. Maunder? Nobody in Haliburton seems to recall him perhaps he came here from Lindsay to represent the McColl-Frontenac Petroleum Company (later bought out by Texaco of Canada). The earliest reference we can find to this company being in Haliburton is in some 1940 tax records we do not have any documentation pertaining to Mr. Maunder, however. If anybody knows anything of a C. Maunder in Haliburton, could they please contact the Haliburton Highlands Museum? We would like to place these photos in context w. the other photos in our collection. Presumably Mr. Maunder was a Lindsay man who became a Haliburton resident & later paid the supreme sacrifice. He should not be forgotten. Thank you.
