Pte. Phillips is wounded taking flag

William A. Phillips of Lindsay whose parents reside at 72 Albert Street S. enlisted for service with the Canadian Army on 5 July 1940.


He entered the Infantry Division at Kingston, Ontario and trained at Peterborough and at Debert (N.S.)


Pte Phillips was sent overseas on 28 July 1942. After further training he saw action with the army in France, Belgium and Holland.


Pte. Phillips was wounded in action suffering fun-shot wound in his left arm and stomach injuries.


Pte Phillips arrived home on 5 January 1945. He was given his discharge on 23 May 1945. Prior to enlisting, Phillips was engaged as a lumberman in this district.


W.A. Phillips was among the number of veterans who attended the Reception and Reunion held in Lindsay on 19 January 1946.
